Jérôme LINIGER

Painter – Performer, Art Director and Teacher in Design. Liniger studied painting from a young age with his mother, Pauline LINIGER, herself a painter and art teacher. After graduating from the Académie Maximilien de Meuron in Neuchâtel – Switzerland, under the direction of painter Gerald COMTESSE, he studied traditional copper engraving at the Atelier de Saint-Prex with Pietro SARTO. Then he traveled to Japan to learn the traditional art of Japanese ink painting with Master NAGAMORI Ichiro. Finally he studied with Ouanès AMOR and Claude VIALLAT at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris – France, graduating in 1996.

As a painter and performance artist, Jerome’s central concern is to offer the spectator the possibility to “be” in the centre of the creative process. This work first began in 1994 with his experimental installations at the Winchester College of Art, England.  Since then, working alone or in collaboration with other artists – choreographers, dancers, visual artists or actors – he has continued to experiment in painting as a ritual, as a rite of passage offering a time and a place where the spectator would like to stay! Over the years, he was collaborated with many artists, including author and director Christophe AVERLAN, choreographer Sophie LANDRY, and the New York visual artist Katy MARTIN.

Whether he is painting on paper or canvas, on a scale ranging from monumental sheets of plastic to the actual skin of another artist, the question is always about sharing the experience of creation with the public. When he paints, performs or designs, the dialogue with the viewer is at the centre of his research.

Parallel to his work as an artist, since 2009, he is also co-director with Nicolas JACQUETTE of Studio Irresistible, a graphic design studio in Paris. And he leads, with Phd Anthony MASURE, a Masters Program in Graphic Design at Campus de la Fonderie de l’Image. Liniger’s work has been exhibited in Switzerland, France, United Kingdom, USA, China.
